Star Mason Cutting Summary

This vase was made from mahogany as the main vessel and wenge  for the 3 dark rings.    The yellow trim around the star is yellow heart, the red is red heart and the white is maple.  The bowl  is 12 inches high and 8 inches in diameter at the widest point.  You are welcome to download this pdf of the cutting summary.    It was designed using Wood Turner Pro.

The star in the feature ring is a pattern I saw in one of my wife’s quilts,  I tried to design the cutting steps using an add-on to Woodturner Pro called Lamination Pro.  Lamination Pro gave me some good ideas on how to cut various designs, but I could never come up with what I wanted so I  just copied the  pieces in the quilt.   Consequently, since I don’t have a written plan you will have to come up with your own design for your feature rings.

Woodturner Pro provides several useful diagrams of your plan; like this one that gives a visual of each ring’s relation to the next ring.  This is very helpful to help assure there is enough overlap between rings and that each ring is not wasting wood.

Below is a picture of the cutting summary with an attached pdf of the printable file.  Feel free to download it if you would like to make this vase or something similar.
